Baking for a Better Future

What started as a simple idea quickly grew into a meaningful and impactful fundraising effort led by members of the D.R.E.A.M.S. Academy event team. This initiative was driven by a clear goal to support and expand the programs that serve students through hands-on learning and meaningful educational experiences.

The effort was led by Victoria Banks, alongside dedicated team members Jianlin Chen, Ben Panthol, Anjiya Lalani, and Kashiv Malempathi. Together, they took on the responsibility of organizing and executing a two-day bake sale fundraiser that would require careful planning, coordination, and a strong level of commitment. From the beginning, the team understood that success would depend not just on the idea itself, but on the work they were willing to put in behind the scenes.

The team selected Carrollwood Village Park as the location for the event, recognizing it as a place where the community naturally comes together. Before the event could take place, they worked through the process of securing the necessary permits and organizing logistics. This step required initiative, communication, and persistence, as coordinating an event in a public space involves more than just setting up a table. Every detail had to be accounted for to ensure the event could run smoothly and responsibly.

In the days leading up to the bake sale, the team focused on preparing the goods themselves. Everything was made from scratch, which added both quality and meaning to what they were offering. They prepared a wide variety of desserts, including rich brookies, classic apple pies, soft cinnamon rolls, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and other homemade treats. Ingredients were carefully gathered, recipes were followed and refined, and each item reflected the time and effort that went into its creation. These were not store-bought items, but products of genuine work and attention to detail.

When the weekend arrived, the team committed fully to the event. They were present both Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., managing every aspect of the bake sale from start to finish. Long hours, constant interaction with visitors, and the need to stay organized throughout the day required focus and endurance. Despite this, the team maintained a positive and engaging presence, welcoming community members and sharing the purpose behind their work.

Throughout the two days, the bake sale became more than just a fundraiser. It became a way to connect with the community and share the mission of D.R.E.A.M.S. Academy. Families stopped by, children were drawn to the variety of desserts, and conversations naturally developed about the impact of the program. The quality of the baked goods drew people in, but the purpose behind the event encouraged them to stay, support, and contribute.

By the end of the weekend, the results reflected the success of the effort. Between the sale of baked goods and the generosity of donations, the team raised approximately $2,000. This outcome was a direct result of the preparation, teamwork, and consistency shown throughout the entire process. It demonstrated what can be accomplished when a group works together with a clear goal and follows through on every step required to achieve it.

The funds raised were immediately put to use in a way that directly benefits the students served by D.R.E.A.M.S. Academy. One of the most important outcomes was the ability to purchase additional iPads, which allows more students to participate in learning rotations at the same time. This improvement increases access, keeps students engaged, and enhances the overall learning experience by making sure more children can be actively involved without delay.

This fundraising effort stands as a strong example of leadership and initiative in action. From securing permits to baking every item from scratch, and from working long hours across two full days to successfully raising meaningful funds, the event team demonstrated what it means to take ownership of a mission and carry it through to completion. Their work not only supported the organization financially, but also strengthened its ability to reach and impact more students moving forward
