Creativity in Action: Empowering D.R.E.A.M.S. Through Michaels

At D.R.E.A.M.S. Academy, some of the most powerful learning moments do not begin with a textbook or a lecture. They begin with a blank page, a handful of materials, and the freedom to create. That is why access to high-quality craft and design supplies is not just helpful for our programs, it is essential.

We are incredibly thankful for the support of Michaels, whose contributions have helped bring a creative dimension to the way we teach and engage students. Their support has allowed us to expand beyond traditional instruction and build learning environments where imagination plays a central role in understanding.

In our programs, creativity is not separate from STEM. It is how students begin to understand it. A piece of construction paper can become the foundation for a design challenge. Paint and markers can help visualize scientific concepts. Simple craft materials can transform into working prototypes, models, and solutions. When students are given the tools to create, they are also given the opportunity to think, test, revise, and express ideas in ways that feel personal and meaningful.

Through Michaels’ support, we have been able to consistently provide students with materials such as canvases, paints, brushes, sketch supplies, decorative elements, foam boards, and other craft essentials that allow them to build, design, and experiment freely. These supplies are used across a wide range of activities, from engineering challenges and design builds to artistic representations of scientific ideas.

What makes this impact so meaningful is how it changes the learning experience. Students are not just observing or listening. They are actively involved. They are shaping ideas with their hands, collaborating with others, and seeing their thoughts come to life in real time. This kind of engagement builds confidence and reinforces the idea that learning is something they can take ownership of.
