We are proud to share that D.R.E.A.M.S. Academy has been awarded the 50th Anniversary Service Scholar Award by Berkeley Preparatory School, accompanied by a $4,000 grant to further expand the impact of our work.

This award represents more than recognition. It provides the opportunity to grow our mission in a way that responds directly to what we have seen in the communities we serve. While D.R.E.A.M.S. Academy has focused on delivering engaging, high-quality STEM education, we have also recognized that learning does not happen in isolation. For many students, access to basic necessities can shape how they experience the classroom.

Through this grant, we are launching the Clean Schools initiative, an expansion of our existing programs that will integrate hygiene access into the support we already provide. This includes essential items such as hygiene kits, personal care supplies, and basic resources that allow students to show up to school with confidence and dignity.

The need for this initiative became clear through our direct work with students. We have seen firsthand that while many students are eager to learn, capable of understanding complex ideas, and fully engaged in STEM activities, they are also navigating challenges outside the classroom. In some cases, students may not have consistent access to clean clothing or basic hygiene products. These factors, though often overlooked, can impact focus, confidence, and overall well-being.

Clean Schools is designed to address that gap. By combining STEM education with access to essential resources, we are working to create an environment where students are not only intellectually engaged, but also supported in a more complete way. The goal is simple: remove barriers so that students can fully participate, learn, and grow.

This grant allows us to begin implementing that vision. It enables us to reach more students, provide additional support, and build a program that recognizes the full context of a child’s experience.

We are grateful to Berkeley Preparatory School for this recognition and for investing in the continued growth of D.R.E.A.M.S. Academy. The 50th Anniversary Service Scholar Award is both an honor and a responsibility, and we are committed to using it to create meaningful, lasting impact.

As we move forward, this initiative represents an important step in strengthening what D.R.E.A.M.S. Academy stands for: not only expanding access to education, but also ensuring that students have the support they need to truly benefit from it.
